The symposium will discuss the emergence of transnational
networks of agency officials, judges, and legislators, and
the promise that this new mode of interaction holds for deeper
and more effective international cooperation. In addition
to reviewing the overall record of transnational networks,
symposium participants will address in greater detail networks
in the fields of competition law, finance regulation, and
criminal law.
Some of the questions to be discussed during the symposium
include:
- Under what conditions
are transnational networks likely to arise and how do they
function?
- What are their
advantages over traditional diplomacy and international
organizations, and in what circumstances are networks most
likely to be successful?
- What are some
of the main obstacles to their legitimacy and effectiveness,
and how can these obstacles be overcome?
The symposium organizers
have applied for CLE credit. For more information about the
conference and how to register, go to http://www.law.smu.edu/Events/ils.aspx.
